Family Photos, New Tools and Precious Moments

October is Family History Month.  Here at Star Photo we are really good at helping preserve, protect and promote family history through photography. We can scan photos, put them on a dvd or flash drive or create a collage that will be enjoyed for generations to come. We can bring a badly faded picture back to life. And in our studio, we can capture images of babies and family that will make grandmothers cry! With happiness, of course. And we’re super proud that we can do all that for you.

We happy to tell you we have a new tool in our photo gathering arsenal. We now have a link on our in-store kiosks that will allow you to download images from your phone, tablet or laptop much faster and easier. Once you are connected to our wi-fi, you can select images from your phone without downloading a thumbnail of every image as we’ve had to do in the past. This makes life better for us and better for you, so it’s a win-win!

Last, we’d like to acknowledge the victims and the heroes of the recent events in Las Vegas. We can’t image how frightening and devastating it must have been to be there, not knowing where the shooting was coming from, and watching friends, family or strangers being injured or worse. When things like this happen, photography and videography play a huge role in documenting events, helping answer questions, identifying the dead or wounded and reuniting those separated from loved ones.  This supports one of our core beliefs: photographs are an important part of our lives, and sometimes are the only link to those who’ve gone before us.

We know you’ve heard this before, but for us, it bears saying again. Hug your loved ones. Take nothing for granted. Every is a gift and not guaranteed. We wish you peace.

Archive Your Vacation Photos

As much as I don’t want to say it out loud, summer is coming to an end in central Indiana. The days are defiantly shorter, the temps are already cooler, and you can feel fall in the air. Before you know it, we’ll be worrying about snowfall and  getting our Christmas shopping done!

For now though, my focus, like many others folks I know, is doing SOMETHING with my vacation pics! I took tons of photos on my recent trip to Cuba, and I’m getting a little overwhelmed. I have, however, tried to establish a work flow. This is a good idea for anyone trying to organize things a bit.

First of all, I made sure to download my photos on my home computer and at work  – see, I have two copies to refer to if my  phone dies, or if one  of my computers crashes.  Next, I’m going through the images and deleting those that aren’t sharp,  aren’t what I’d hope and anything that cannot be “fixed” with a phone app or Photoshop. That’s narrowing things down a bit.

The next step is to then burn these images to dvd or load them onto a jump drive. This gives me yet another copy, and something portable that can transfer newly edited images from work to home. It’s been said if you  don’t have at least 3 copies of your files, they really don’t exist. It never hurts to have a back up or two! In addition, I’ve got images in cloud storage , which gives me a little more peace of mind.

I will certainly be creating a book or two to share my best images. And I know I’ll find some way to display some of them at home. What about you? We can help you create memorable  canvas,, prints or metal prints, as well as  photo  books to keep those memories organized and close at hand. Come see us with your project! And remember, the holidays will be here before you know it!

Every Summer has a Story

Summer Memories                   Every Summer has a Story

Sometimes all it takes is a glimpse at an old photograph to bring it back. The smell of suntan oil. The sound of the gulls squabbling at the seashore. The safe feeling you had when wrapped up in a towel at the end of the day, in your father’s arms…

Summer memories. We here at Star Photo Digital Arts have so many ways to capture those memories and bring them back to life. We can scan your old photos, create a collage, and put it on canvas. Next thing you know you have a really cool keepsake and a trip down memory lane every time you show this to someone. And a rockin’ piece of personal art to hang on the wall.

We can take your old photos or your current digital files and create a photo book to hold those memories. Everything from a hard bound coffee table size book to a small spiral bound book to stick in your pocket or purse, ready to share with someone. You can even add text, so you know where and when and who are in the photos!

Or maybe metal prints are your style. We’ve worked with clients to create a memory wall in a kitchen or bath with this awesome medium. They’re easy to hang, easy to keep clean and are perfect for those areas when water, steam, cooking oils and smells could spoil a print or a canvas.

If you are one to plan ahead, create a file of summer photos to use in a calendar. Boom! Future Christmas gifts! Send one to the grandparents, aunts and uncle, anyone who needs kept up to date on family members.

Summer fun doesn’t last forever – we have to have winter to make those memories sweeter. But it doesn’t have to fade away completely. Every summer has a story.

Meet the Staff

Meet the Staff of Star Photo Digital Arts

More info on our incredible staff –

Kathy Wehrley has been a student of photography most of her life, receiving her first camera at age 12. In the early 1980’s she worked for Odell’s (camera store and lab), while teaching basic photography classes and being heavily involved with the Killbuck Photo Guild of Madison County.  Her favorite subjects have long been architecture, shape, color and form and only started photographing babies and families when she joined the Star Photo Digital Arts Staff in the fall of 2009. While there’s plenty of variety of subjects working in the studio, from families to headshots to fine art captures, her favorite human subjects are the babies.  “It can be a lot of work, but capturing those fleeting moments in the first year, and making the mamas happy brings me a lot of satisfaction”, she says. In her time off, she enjoys riding her bike, going to the gym, reading and enjoying time with family and friends.

Aaron Martin came to us in 2015, starting out as a part timer, but quickly grew into a full time gig. He graduated from Frankton High school, and then earned a degree from Ball State University majoring in Advertising, with a minor in Marketing.  He has spent many hours updating and polishing our website (including helping with these blog posts). He’s recently taken a new role as Creative Director, offering Business to Business marketing solutions.  Aaron’s favorite part of the job is, in his words, “Making cool stuff.”  In his off hours, Aaron plays a lot of golf and spends time with family and friends.

David Olvey has been with the Rossen family, Star China , and Star Photo for as long as anyone can remember. He’s a handyman, in charge of UPS shipments, runs the C-41 processor, and does most our canvas work, and photo mount work.  He knows where everything is in the building and you can count on him to find it for you, generally in five minutes or less.   He is a very important member of our team.
